I love free stuff.

So Adam and I both being the thrifty people that we are, are attempting to prepare for this baby in the cheapest ways possible.  Aside from that, there is so much waste in the baby industry.  We don’t want to buy a bunch of brand new stuff that is only going to be used for six months.  So, here are just a few of the things we have saved money on.

Baby Dresser… found on the side of the road with a sign that said “Free, very old”  Adam brought it home, replaced the leg and refinished it.  It’s beautiful.  This will also serve as the changing table.

Two cribs… seconds given to us.  One for my parents place, one for here.

Baby bath tub and Diaper Champ pail… free from Freecycle.  Awesome site.

Baby Bjorn baby carrier… $20 off craigslist.  Another awesome site, $80 in stores

Cloth diapers…$36 online

Wool diaper covers… made from thrift store sweaters…$15

bottles… free from friend

box of boy clothes… $2 at yard sale

box of girl clothes… free from friend

avent breast pump, brand new… $5 at yard sale, $50 in stores

diaper wipes… free, making them from used t-shirts and flannel pajamas

diaper bag… free, used from friend

other miscellaneous items… free from friends

I am so thankful to the Lord for such great deals.  I hate the idea of anyone having to spend a lot of money on something that won’t be used for very long. I honestly wouldn’t care if people brought me stuff at my shower they had bought off craigslist or gotten from a thrift store.  In fact, I would applaud them. Adam and I have basically decided we will never spend more than thrift store prices on clothes ever again unless absolutely necessary.  We’ve found some great thrift stores here in Columbus we never knew existed and decided that’s where we are checking first for baby clothes.  Now I know a lot of the stuff in those places is junk, but when you find the deal, it’s all worth it. : )

In other news,  the midwife checkups are going well.  We love our midwife.  She is a strong believer and we feel really comfortable with her.  I’m beginning to wonder just how big this baby is going to be.  The midwife says it’s going to be a long baby.  That’s not a surprise : )  I just don’t want to give birth to a 12 pounder.  I’m getting really anxious to find out if baby is a boy or girl.  The general consensus seems to be leaning towards a girl.  I really have no idea.  No maternal intuition here.  Just a little over six weeks as long as baby comes on time which I’m being told not to expect.  The midwife says first timers usually go 1-2 weeks late, but I would be really happy if baby decided to come a week or week and a half early…just after Christmas would be ideal.  That would give mom more time to spend with her first grandbaby before going back to work and perhaps keep baby’s weight at bay : )
