First Ultrasound Picture!!!

The quality isn’t the greatest. We had to take a picture of a picture, but it’s good enough!!  It was clearer watching it on the screen and baby was moving around a bit.  (head is on the left) So amazing.  I didn’t think I would be so affected by seeing the ultrasound, but I ended up with tears rolling down my cheeks.  It was like, we really DO have a baby in there, and it’s doing well!!!

I recently received my first baby stuff!! A friend from home offered her crib, a couple strollers and some other miscellaneous items that she no longer needed.  Yay for free baby stuff!!

Tomorrow I get my ultrasound.  Hope to post pictures!

I found this website with some incredible videos of the baby at different stages of development.  Although, baby is still quite small, he/she is amazingly developed already. Fingernails have already started to develop and the baby will often suck his thumb! And baby already has his own unique set of fingerprints.  It’s incredible to think of all that has happened in just a couple of months!

Not much new since my last post, but it’s been awhile so I thought I should update. My appetite is much better than it was, which I’m really thankful for. Chinese food still has no appeal, but there are enough other things to make that I’m eating enough. We just met an American couple on Friday that live down the road from us, and she, knowing what it’s like to be pregnant in a foreign land is having us over for MEXICAN sometime soon. She brought a bunch of ingredients from another city she was in recently. My apologies for talking about food again, but let me tell you, that invitation for Mexican is BIG news!!!

I’m due for my next checkup and will get my first ultrasound in a couple of weeks. Hoping to get some pictures to share! Although we won’t know for some time, I hope that when the time comes, that the doctor will be willing to tell us if we are having a boy or a girl. We have heard different things from different foreigners who have been pregnant here. Some had a hard time getting them to tell them. There is a law here that the doctors are not permitted to tell the parents what the sex of the child is (since they can only have one child and some parents might choose to have an abortion if they found out it was a girl). Pretty awful.

Here’s an interesting note about having your baby in China. Here, many women refer to the month after giving birth as their “month of prison.” They are not permitted to leave their beds for the whole month, other than to go to the bathroom. They cannot go outside and must be fully clothed even if it’s the middle of summer. This even goes so far as to putting cotton balls in the ears. They cannot bathe or even wash their hair. They even forbid watching TV or using the computer…something to do with damaging your eyes. Neither can you eat fruit or cold foods. I was talking to a teacher here about how we don’t do these things in the U.S. and she was astonished. So, due to the different approach here to pregnancy and childbirth, we’ve only told a very few of our chinese friends we are pregnant. Not sure what they would think of me jogging around the track or eating ice cream : )

Well, Adam is almost done making spaghetti with sauce that looks and smells like spaghetti sauce from home! Yum. Gotta go! : )
